Strategic Management Introduction

Strategy is defined as long-term plan of action to achieve a goal. It focuses more on the future than of the present. For example, in the army, a general would straighten out a certain strategy to win the war in the future. They would plan something now, to win on another day. That’s what strategy is. Management however, is defined as the act of getting people together to work together to achieve a certain goal. Management usually tackles more on the business side of the world. With these at hand, we can now define strategic management as the act of getting people together to work for a long term success of a certain business.

Why is strategic management important? Well, in most cases, a business usually has a lifespan. This lifespan usually is very short, especially for new businesses. Let’s take for example this situation: you put up a small business, a small fast-food restaurant. For a few years, the place would have a lot of costumers coming in and out, but as time would pass by, all would just fade away. What’s wrong? People would eventually get sick of the place and find something better. That’s what was wrong.

So with this, we see that in a business, we have to look at the long term effect of it towards the people which you will be serving. If people would get sick of the place, because of the law of marginal utility, then you have to look for a way to keep on improving the business you have. This is where strategic management comes in. you plan your business’ future achievement beforehand for it to be prosperous al the way, that way, the lifespan extends for another ten or so years. That’s good business right there.

Getting a hold onto information about strategic management will really help you out in your business. It will boost the chances of your business to be successful, but it’s a pretty tough subject. Technically learning the subject can really get you working really hard in the library, but it’s really a big help for you in the future. In my experience, I had to make all kinds of case studies, feasibility studies, time tables and all sorts of papers, just to get through the technical part, but it still was a big help.

Being able to understand fully the technicalities of the strategic management process really gave me a better chance out in the real world. It helped me a lot in my work, and my life. It can be a big help for you to.
