Choosing Between Laptops and Desktops
Posted at Nov 27th, 2009 in Business
When it is necessary, the issue of purchasing a computer is easy to resolve. The electronics market is replete with a wide array of models that all claim interesting features. If one knows enough about what a PC should be, then it should not be hard for him to choose one.
Narrow down your choices to two types: desktops and laptops. Then try to learn about the good and bad points of each type before making any decision on what to buy. Avoid going along with the hype because this does not really give you objective views. These are usually based on aesthetic values, something that does not matter much in picking a PC choice.
Of course, its appearance has a bearing on one’s preference but it is certainly not the main feature of a PC. If aesthetics are the basis, then laptops will certainly be the hands-down choice. Most models are sleek-looking and lightweight. Some even have colors that could match designer clothes.
Fashion, meanwhile, is not a desktop’s usual feature. It can boast, however, of its power, durability, and processing speed. Still, manufacturers have been successful in making slimmer CPUs while LCD monitors have become the usual choice. These means that desktops are also being made to look better wherever it is placed.
Laptops, however, has plus points with respect to carrying convenience. This makes it the top pick of persons who would like to take their computer jobs with them wherever they go. Now, technological advances have made these even lighter and tinier, making it even possible to bring these in long distance walks in smaller bags.
It is this advantage; however, that makes it riskier to own. Precisely, because it is light and small unlike a desktop, laptops are easy preys for thieves; consequently, making the data in it vulnerable also. Manufacturers have tried putting protection such as fingerprint or voice recognition locks but many hackers can still break it easily.
With its weight and the peripherals attached to it, a desktop is certainly not designed for mobility. However, for power users it is the most recommended. In terms of graphics and audio, it has better capabilities. For graphic designers and gamers, this is the obvious choice. Jobs that require PCs to run for long hours definitely prefer desktops too.
In choosing between a desktop and a laptop, one only has to determine its purpose. If he travels a lot and does some computer work along the way, then a laptop is recommended. For those who use a computer at home or in the office only, a desktop is enough.
